Marc Andre Ter Stegen was named FC Barcelona's captain for their Liga game against Celta Vigo in week 33 on Tuesday.
Ernesto Valverde named an unusual starting line-up for the visit to Balaidos, with the Copa del Rey final around the corner, and had to search for a new captain for the team.
With official captains Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets all absent and other dressing room heavyweights like Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto all on the bench, the german goalkeeper was given the armband for the game.
It is the first time the 24-year-old has been Barça's captain for a game. But it is not unusual for a goalkeeper to captain the team, as Victor Valdes and Jose Manuel Pinto had both worn the armband previously.
This was Barça's starting XI against Celta:
Ter Stegen, Semedo, Yerry Mina, Vermaelen, Digne, André Gomes, Paulinho, Denis Suárez, Dembéle, Coutinho and Alcácer.
Celta's line-up was as follows:
Sergio, Wass, Roncaglia, S. Gómez, Jonny, Méndez, Jozabed, Lobotka, Sisto, M. Gómez and Iago Aspas.
